ABOUT US
Established in 2010, the Institute of Arts of the Communication University of China is an institution specializing in academic research and high-end talents training.
Our first dean, Professor Zhong Chengxiang, set the concept of “Culture civilized people, art cultivated the mind” for the Institute at the very beginning. Thus, the Institute gradually formed a character that values spiritual connotation and cultural responsibility, and has built up a fundamental, cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research stance. The Institute has already figured out a talent training plan that is comprehensive, solid and effective.
Since its establishment, the Institute has actively participated in national discipline building. It played an important role in uniting peer institutions and leading scholars in the process of upgrading art discipline from a first-class discipline to an independent category. In the fourth round of discipline adjustment, the Institute's Art Theory discipline was upgraded from a key discipline in Beijing to a national A- discipline.
Among the current faculty of the Institute, there are, one secretary-general and member of the Art Theory Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, one vice-chairman of the Teaching Guidance Committee of Art Theory of the Ministry of Education, one president and three vice-presidents of national-level academies (associations), one leading talent in philosophy and social sciences of the national “Ten Thousand People Plan”, one cultural master and Four Batches of talents from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, two “New Century” talents from the Ministry of Education, and three young talents from CUC. Our faculty has presided over dozens of national and provincial research projects and published more than 100 academic publications and teaching materials. More than 600 high-level postgraduates, doctoral graduates and post-doctoral fellows have graduated from the Institute. Most of whom are working in major universities and research institutions, some of whom are public officials of the State Council and local governments, and many of whom have grown up to be senior executives in major domestic enterprises. The Institute has become a major theoretical center for art discipline in China.
In recent years, under the unified planning of the university, the Institute of Arts has embarked on a new round of disciplinary adjustment, making every effort to promote the discipline of art theory in the direction of high precision. The Institute of Art has four major disciplines: Art History, Art Criticism, Art Communication and Media Art, and offers full-time postgraduate, doctoral, post-doctoral and visiting scholar programs. The Institute is the cooperative construction unit of the Literary Criticism of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Beijing Research Base of Aesthetic Education and Civilization, and the Yangming School of the Centre for Liberal Studies of the Communication University of China. The Institute hosts an important academic journal, Art Communication Research, and a bulletin, China Cultural Communication, and has become a professional research institution that integrates academic research, talent training, academic exchange and social services.
The Institute attaches great importance to international exchange and has cooperated and exchanged with professors from more than 20 internationally renowned universities, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Birmingham, Harvard University, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Dallas, Rutgers University, the University of Heidelberg, Hokkaido University, and Kanagawa University.
